HNB clinches three awards at Best Corporate Citizens Awards 2020

Sri Lanka’s leading private sector bank HNB PLC continued its trailblazing legacy at the Best Corporate Citizens Sustainability Awards (BCCSA) 2020 in recognition of its in pioneering sustainability initiatives over the past year.

Hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the awards are considered to be among the pinnacle of corporate achievement in Sri Lanka. In total, HNB won 3 accolades at this year’s awards, including being declared among the Top 10 Best Corporate Citizens in Sri Lanka.

Given the especially volatile and uncertain environment we find ourselves in, the fostering of sustainable and ethical practices has become absolutely essential. CCC’s ranking of the 10 Best Corporate Citizens in Sri Lanka, is based on an evaluation of corporates that have enhanced the well-being of their communities in conjunction with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Fostering a reputation for excellence, HNB has consistently ranked among the 10 Best Corporate Citizens in the past.

HNB was also declared a winner in the Economic Contribution - Consistent Commitment and Continuous Improvement category. Chosen from a select pool of corporate entities which have been recognized at the Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards for at least three years in the past, the award is a testament to the Bank’s consistently improving performance each year.

Over the past two decades, HNB has promoted Environmental, Social, and Governance compliant investment opportunities, both in the country and overseas, by heavily funding off-shore renewable power projects. In particular, HNB was recently involved in Sri Lanka’s first-ever Waste-to-Energy project, establishing its leadership in the field of renewable energy production.

Additionally, the Bank was awarded a Merit Certificate for the Best Sustainability Project in recognition of its invaluable contribution through the construction of a Cancer Counselling Centre at Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama. The Centre will provide patients at Apeksha Hospital with emotional support during the course of their treatment.

With 252 customer centres across the country, HNB is one of Sri Lanka's largest, most technologically innovative banks having won local and global recognition for its efforts to drive forward a new paradigm in digital banking. Over the recent past, the bank was ranked among the World Top 1,000 Banks list compiled by the prestigious UK-based Banker Magazine. HNB has a national rating of AA- (lka) by Fitch Ratings (Lanka) Ltd.

HNB was also declared Best Sub-Custodian Bank in Sri Lanka at the Global Finance Awards 2020, in addition to winning the coveted Best Retail Bank in Sri Lanka Award for the 11th time at the Asian Banker Awards 2020, in recognition of its sustainable growth and continuous improvements in processes, products and services amidst a challenging macroeconomic environment.
