Banking on your terms: HNB launches ‘HNB Self-Onboarding’

In a significant step toward enhancing customer convenience in the nation, Sri Lanka's leading private sector bank, HNB PLC, unveiled HNB Self-Onboarding, a transformative digital banking solution that allows customers to open an HNB account entirely online.

Designed completely in-house and developed with MilleniumIT ESP, HNB’s digital banking solution allows customers to truly bank on their own terms. The new facility represents a new paradigm in customer convenience, empowering individuals to embark on their banking journey without the need for any in-person visits to a bank branch.

"HNB's Self-Onboarding facility is a groundbreaking solution that allows any customer access to the full range of key products completely remotely. It represents a significant step forward not only in the Bank's digital journey but in that of the nation, allowing prospective customers unparalleled convenience to bank on their own terms wherever they are in Sri Lanka, and even across the globe.

“Our system is simple, robust, reliable and secure, and is now the most comprehensive Self-Onboarding service on the market. Whether you are a customer that is living in a remote area, overseas, or are simply in need of saving time and effort, this new service is a game changer and we welcome all who want to open a bank account with HNB," said HNB Chief Operating Officer, Sanjay Wijemanne.

HNB Self-Onboarding enables individuals to sign up for their first HNB account seamlessly through an online platform, eliminating the need for physical paperwork or branch visits. The entire process, from initial registration to account activation, can be completed within 24 working hours.

Customers can submit their details online and schedule a video call for verification by the Bank’s agents at their convenience. Once verified, customers receive their account number and access to a range of banking services is granted through all regular HNB digital channels.

"Self-Onboarding is more than just a service - it erases boundaries and ensures that banking is accessible to all. This facility ensures accessibility to banking services for everyone, bridging gaps for those in remote areas and even Sri Lankan expatriates abroad. We envision a future where in-person bank meetings are reserved for advice and knowledge sharing, while all transactional and support services are conducted remotely at the customers' convenience, said HNB Head of Deposits, Viranga Gamage.

HNB Self-Onboarding is unique in its comprehensive range of banking services, including savings accounts, salary accounts and foreign currency savings accounts. Designed entirely in-house and in accordance with Central Bank of Sri Lanka guidelines, the platform is custom-made to ensure that users enjoy a seamless and limitless banking experience, while upholding all necessary security and compliance protocols. Moreover, the process is environmentally friendly, reducing the need for paper documentation and minimizing carbon emissions associated with travel to bank branches.
